Fenix Carriages - Spring Makers We have our own Springsmith in-house. This means we can offer flexibility and individuality second to none. Pete Andrew has worked with Fenix Carriages for many years. Pete trained with his stepfather in Poole and went on to specialize in making new springs for vintage cars such as Bugatti, Bentley, Lagonda, Rolls Royce, and Jaguar. Mark Broadbent met Pete over 15 years ago and immediately a mutual respect and friendship was established. Now, as well as continuing to produce springs for vintage cars, Pete makes by hand all the springs, shackles and forgework for Fenix Carriages, here on site in our own workshops. Fenix are the only carriage builders in the UK with such facilities, right down to our own spring tempering furnace and oil bath. This offers our customers a unique opportunity to obtain a truly bespoke vehicle, or restore an old one correctly and safely, as all springs are individually made to suit the vehicle and the new owner, to the highest of standards and by traditional methods. Most of those who are lucky enough to have experienced a smooth and comfortable ride on one of the four-in-hand coaches built by Fenix Carriages, will probably never have calculated that they are sitting above sixty four hand made spring leaves, all tapered pipped and slotted, with sixteen rolled eyes, and sixteen hand crafted spring shackles. A truly dedicated labour by a skilled craftsman.
