Spring Making

We have our own Springsmith in-house, Pete Andrew, which enables Fenix to offer unrivalled flexibility and individuality.

Pete, recently admitted to the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers, trained with his stepfather in Poole, and went on to specialise in making new springs for vintage cars such as:-

• Bugatti,

• Bentley,

• Lagonda,

• Rolls Royce,

• and Jaguar.

Now, as well as continuing to produce springs for vintage cars, Pete makes by hand all the springs, shackles and forgework for Fenix Carriages, here on site in our own workshops.

Hand built to individual requirements.

Fenix are the only carriage builders in the UK with such facilities, right down to our own spring tempering furnace and oil bath. This offers our customers a unique opportunity to obtain a truly bespoke vehicle, or restore an old one correctly and safely. All springs are individually made to suit the vehicle and the new owner, to the highest of standards and by traditional methods.

Carriage springs including:-

• Leaf springs – full, half and quarter eliptical,

• Cee and telegraph springs,

• rolling spring eyes,

• tapered leaves, pipped, slotted or clamped as required.

Anyone who has experienced a smooth ride on one of the four-in-hand coaches, built by Fenix Carriages, will probably never have calculated that they are sitting above sixty four hand-made spring leaves, all tapered, pipped and slotted, with sixteen rolled eyes, and sixteen hand crafted spring shackles - A truly dedicated labour by a skilled craftsman.
